Right Turn Lane

Long time, no post. Im sorry, faithful following. The ones that check their RSS feed and Twitter Accounts Daily, only to be broken again due to the lack of attention I can maintain.

I promise that I will make a small effort in writing down rants, in hopes that someone can clarify my misunderstandings of our society.

Now on to the show.

In Lexington, people are stupid. I know people are stupid all over, but it seems that in the mornings, weekdays mostly, something within the city attracts stupid people like a giant CERN magnet. Following the highways like ball bearings in grooves, they flow inward, toward the heart of the city. This poses some problems due to the layout of the city, but overall not a major problem….. Until you start to factor in that their stupid.

I drive a van. I large van. Easily viewable from any angle, and from space. Why is it that people do not see the van, when they change lanes?  I can spot the van in a Walmart Supercenter parking lot, in whiteout conditions.  Do they think their smart car is smart enough not to be crushed like a Coors Light can, and recycled?

All is well, but the thing that has been really killing me is that there is a particular intersection, off ramp of I-75 South onto Winchester Rd inbound, where people continually amaze me with their stupidity.

I freqent this intercestion more than I prefer, but I nearly alway need to turn right, and at the first light, right again.  This should be a very easy task at any time of the day, as it has its own lane. Actually there are two right turn lanes here. The “middle” lane, which is a right turn lane, has to wait for the light to turn green, or they can turn “right on red” if the entering lane is clear.  This I have no issue with at all.  The problem is that the right lane, which is also “right on red” HAS ITS OWN LANE.  You can very quickly pull up to the stop light, check to make sure no one is doing something stupid, or any pedestrians are coming, and proceed into the turn lane for the light.

Needless to say, I have full roadrage at this light.

During a recent driving trip to Daytona , FL, I visited many of the Rest Areas that the Southeast has to offer. Along the way, there were occasions that I had to spend more time in the restroom than others (i.e. Using the stall).

During this time, it was amazing to me the number of people who would either answer their phone or be walking in with a full conversation going on. This happend to me probably 5 times on the trip.

I’m not sure that it bothers me as an atendee of the same facility, but I find it incredably difficult to rationalize how this is rude to the other half of the conversation.

Again, more things I don’t understand.

On a recent trip to the great state of Florida, traveling interstate 75, I was amazed the number of idiots that intentionaly drove in the middle lane.

I understand there are times that this behavior can be approprate, as when you are the only car on the road, and pot-holes fill the slow lane. Maybe then.
Otherwise,”keep right except to pass!” and “slower traffic use right lane!”

How hard is that?

Yesterday, the wife and I were hauling a trailer in the city, and needed to stop and get food. So, parking is a little tricky with a trailer, so we decieded to park across the street from a sandwich shop, in the parking lot of a big box store. Since that end of the lot was completely empty, I pulling into the aisle and turned, slowly, into a parking space. Pulling forward as to occupy two spaced, or one, and and the one in front of it.

While we were parking, a gentleman was driving his car across the empty parking lot. Across.
This isnt too out of the ordinary, as the lot was empty, except for us. As he drove directly toward us, he seemed perturbed that we were parking, and that we were in his way.

Just simply strange that he was in the right…. crossing the parking lot and was upset that we were parking.

I just dont understand.

Getting Gas

With gas being over $1 more per gallon than this time last year, I seem to pay more attention to people when I am filling up my truck. Although I am lucky enough to not to have to travel much, I guess that makes me pay more attention when I do.

So this time I was to fill up my tank at my “favorite” station, I noticed that the gas was 6 cents cheaper than it was directly across the street. My choice is clear, buy gas from the cheaper supplier.? Right.

The catch is, people were lined up 7 or eight deep waiting here to get gas. No lines at the competitor.
My truck has a 15 gallon tank, which if completely empty, would make the price difference of about 90 cents if I bought the cheaper gas. But of course I would have to wait in line maybe 15 minutes for this (as everyone else was doing). And because it was near 90 degrees outside, most of them kept their vehicles running for the AC.

In my mind, that 15 min of waiting, and running my truck far under weighed the almost 90 cents that I would be paying for convenience and getting out of the way of the herd.

Im just saying.
